Safe and Fair: Consultative Dialogue on Realizing Women Migrant Workers’ Rights and Opportunities in the ASEAN Region

A consultative dialogue was held to discuss a new project focused on the rights of women migrant workers in the ASEAN Region.

The project, Safe & Fair: Realizing women migrant workers rights and opportunities in the ASEAN (2018-2022), conducted a consultative dialogue to discuss a new project focused on the rights of women migrant workers in the ASEAN region.  The project is part of the multi-year EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to Eliminate Violence against Women and Girls. Safe & Fair will be implemented by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The project aims to address women migrant workers’ vulnerabilities to violence and trafficking, strengthen rights-based and gender-responsive approaches to violence against women and labour migration governance and support access to essential services. The project will be implemented in ten ASEAN countries including the Philippines.

The event featured participants from government, employer representatives, worker representatives, civil society and development partners working across labour, migration and disciplines focusing on ending violence against women such as health, police, justice, social welfare, and coordination bodies. It provided an opportunity to discuss and agree the country specific priorities of the project and how synergies can be created with national priorities and existing initiatives.
