Labour Inspection and Role of Workers in Promotion of Workplace Compliance to Labour Laws and Standards

The IndustriALL Global Union, in partnership with the ILO projects on labour inspectorate and the GSP+ on freedom of association and collective Bargaining, will conduct a seminar on the role of workers in the promotion of workplace compliance and labour inspection.

The IndustriALL Global Union will conduct a seminar on labour inspection and role of workers in the promotion of workplace compliance to labour laws and standards. The seminar is implemented in partnership with the ILO Project on Building the Capacity of the Philippines Labour Inspectorate and the ILO European Union GSP+ Project on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining.

Specifically, the seminar aims to:
  1. Introduce and understand the international and national framework for labour inspection and importance of workers’ participation in monitoring compliance of companies to labour laws and standards;
  2. Grasp on the coverage of labour inspection and understanding on labour relations, labour standards and occupational safety and health standards;
  3. Enhance capacity in observation, writing and documenting enterprise compliance or non-compliance reports as well as to effectively participate in monitoring and investigative mechanisms using case documentation, build-up and monitoring skills and the 2011/2012 Guidelines;
  4. Generate proposals and action plan on how IndustriALL affiliates can support the establishment as well as strengthening and monitoring of internal trade union monitoring networks that can assist local unions at all stages of the inspection process.
The ILO Project on Building the Capacity of the Philippines Labour Inspectorate, funded by the United States Department of Labor (US DOL) contributes to strengthening labour law compliance and promoting the rights of workers and employers through a strong labour inspectorate in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the ILO European Union GSP+ Project on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining, funded by the European Commission (DG Trade) contributes to better application of freedom of association and right to collective bargaining in the Philippines, focusing on measures to better address allegations concerning violation of workers’ rights in the context civil liberties.
