World Day against Child Labour 2017

Songs and poems for one million Filipino children freed from child labour

The National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) will mark the World Day against Child Labour in the Philippines in a concert featuring songs, dances and poems on child labour in line with the global theme “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labour”.

The National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), through the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) as the chair of the Knowledge Management and Advocacy Subcommittee will spearhead the World Day against Child Labour in the Philippines in a concert featuring indigenous percussions, bands and artistic performances.

The “Himig at Tula para sa Isang Milyong Batang Malaya” or Songs and poems for one million Filipino children freed from child labour is anchored on the goal of the Philippine Program Against Child Labor 2017 to 2022, which aims to reduce child labour by one million until 2025. The concert will feature songs and poems and will include a dance workshop for former child labourers who will also perform as part of the commemoration.

The concert is also in line with the global theme “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labour” or “Sa armadong tunggalian, sakuna o bagyo, Iligtas ang bata sa trabahong mapang-abuso”. The concert will also tap on the potential of youth and students to be part of the campaign to help end child labour. Young people led by the National Youth Commission (NYC) and youth organizations will also release a joint statement against child labour.

The concert is open to the public, which will be held at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium. Everyone is encouraged to be part of the World Day against Child Labour and to post their messages to help end child labour using the hashtags #1MBatangMalaya #NOchildlabour and #WDACL2017.
