Provincial Summit on Migration and Development-La Union

Through the combined efforts of the International Labour Organization, the Provincial Government of La Union, and the Kanlungan Center Foundation, a Provincial Summit on Migration and Development will be held in La Union.

The Provincial Summit on Migration and Development aims to forge a multi stakeholders’ partnership among local government units, national and regional government agencies and civil society organizations with the launch of the Provincial Migration and Development Strategic Plan of La Union. The summit is in line with the promotion of the rights and welfare of the most abused and distressed Filipino migrant workers in La Union with emphasis on economic reintegration of returned women migrants. The summit is anchored on the prevention of illegal recruitment and human trafficking of young rural women.

Prior to the summit, several activities took place with the support of the ILO, Bannuar Ti La Union and Kanlungan Center Foundation. Among these is a province-wide mapping of the situation of Overseas Filipino Workers. The initial findings and analysis of the mapping project were presented to different municipalities last February 2011.
