ILO-Silliman University (SU) knowledge corner partnership

The International Labour Organization (ILO) opened knowledge corners in schools, universities, and public libraries in the Philippines. Through a partnership with the ILO and Silliman University (SU), the first knowledge corner was established on 25 August 2011 in the Visayan region of the Philippines.

The Silliman University President Dr Ben S. Malayang III and Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson, ILO Country Office for the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 25 August 2011 to formalize the partnership through ILO-SU knowledge corner. The following SU officials: Dr Betsy Joy B. Tan, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Rev. Elmer L. Saa, SU Parish Church; and Dr Earl Jude Paul L. Cleope, Dean, College of Education witnessed the signing.

The ILO-SU knowledge corner is located at the 2nd Floor, Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman Library. Ms Lorna Yso, University Librarian maintains the special library collections, publications, information materials and coordinates related request. With this partnership, the ILO has now the opportunity to share its programmes, services, and tools with leading educators and academe in the Visayan region. University students, faculty, and researchers will have wider access to ILO statistics, databases, labour standards, publications, videos, and information products.

After the MOA signing, Director Johnson gave a lecture on “Pathways to Education and Decent Work for the Youth”. The event was organized by the American Studies Resource Center, College of Education-CELTA, and Philippine-American Educational Foundation Satellite Advising Center at Silliman University.
