  1. World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL) Philippines Celebration 2012

    The Philippines will celebrate the World Day Against Child Labour on 26 June this year by presenting to the public the preliminary results of the 2011 Survey on Children done by the National Statistics Office (NSO). This comes 10 years after the last survey done in 2001 which revealed that there were 4.2 million working children, 2.4 million of which were into child labour because of their exposure to hazardous conditions. After the NSO presents the 2011 Survey, a national campaign dubbed “Batang Malaya: A Child Labour-Free Philippines” will be launched by the National Child Labor Committee. The President of the Philippines has been invited to the event as well as key partners in the fight to eliminate child labour in the country and around 100 child labourers. More than 300 participants are expected to attend the activity which will be held at Fun Ranch, a play area for children.

  3. Guidelines launched for the Police and Military to apply Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining

    The guidelines specifies the role of key players and addresses human rights and workers’ rights, particularly the important issues raised by workers, including violence against unionists, presence of the military in (or near) the workplace, labelling, and stigmatization of unionists, and harassment.

  4. Promoting the Effective Recognition and Implementation of the Fundamental Rights of Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining in the Philippines

    This project emanates from observations and concerns expressed by the ILO supervisory bodies regarding difficulties in the exercise of the fundamental rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining.

  5. United Nations Photo Exhibit on Indigenous Women (International Women’s Day 2012)

    The ILO Country Office for the Philippines, as the Chair of the United Nations Indigenous Peoples Technical Working Group, has partnered with the SM Cares for a photo exhibit on indigenous women. The week-long photo exhibit will be launched on 8 March 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the 2F South Wing, Entertainment Mall Area of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. The photo exhibit will then be moved to other SM Malls in Metro Manila.

    A Round Table Discussion (RTD) to be participated in by middle- to senior-level labour officials and other project partners in Thailand and the Philippines will be held to build a better understanding of existing country policies and programmes and interventions on the the protections of the rights of migrant workers, and how these are implemented at sub-national levels.
