Indonesia Establishes Tripartite Labour Inspection Committee

In April 2012, the Directorate General of Labour Inspection of the Indonesia Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration established the country’s first ever tripartite Labour Inspection Committee. The Committee is governed by Ministerial Decree No. 10 of 2012 and is designed to strengthen the labour inspection system in Indonesia through the use of social dialogue.

The Committee consists of 19 representatives from government (Labour Inspectors), employers’ associations, trade unions, and other stakeholders. It is headed by a Chairman, a Vice chairman and a Secretary, with committee members appointed for a period of two years.

The Committee functions as an advisory and consultative body but does not affect the independence of Labour Inspectors when it comes to enforcing Indonesia’s Labour Law. Its mission is to give inputs and advice on enhancing the capacity of labour inspectors and on improving labour policies in order to develop a modern and effective Labour Inspection system in Indonesia.
