Self-assessment tool for Labour Inspection Systems

This tool enables national labour inspectorates to undertake self-assessments in order to evaluate their own institutional strengths and weaknesses. The tool takes a systems approach and is designed to be a practical exercise to assist countries in making decisions and taking actions to strengthen their national labour inspection systems. It is intended for institutional self-assessments and not as a self-assessment tool for enterprises or individual labour inspectors.

Instructional material | 02 August 2012

The core of the tool is a section called "What to Assess". It sets out the different parts of a Labour Inspection System for assessment and enables countries to build a step-by-step personalized questionnaire reflecting the desired scope and focus of the evaluation.

The tool was developed by the ITC-ILO in collaboration with the ILO’s Labour Administration and Inspection Programme (LAB/ADMIN), financed under the ILO/Norway partnership. It is available for download here. If you prefer, you may request a physical copy of the tool on CD-ROM by sending an email to labadmin@ilo.org.
