  1. Youth Dialogue on Nepali Youth’s Vision for the Future of Work

    The ILO facilitated a dialogue on 15 December 2016 with Nepali youth representing various sectors and interests to discuss opportunities and challenges around youth employment in Nepal. The discussion identified implications of transformational changes in the world of work for the Nepali youth as they prepare for upcoming labour market changes.

  3. Workshop to prepare for a Sector Study in Nepal (ECLM project)

    A Workshop was held in Kathmandu from August 29 - September 2 in in the context of the project "Assessing the economic contribution of labour migration in developing countries as countries of destination" (ECLM). The workshop was organised in collaboration with Social Science Baha, a research institution in Nepal, and discussed the implementation of a study of the manufacturing and small trade sectors.

  4. Workshop to prepare for a Sector Study in Nepal (ECLM project)

  5. Capacity development training on counselling and employers' services

    29 August - 2 September 2016

    The training is to enhance knowledge on counselling and employer services and strengthen the capacity on the operations and functioning of employment services to provide jobseekers and employers with better match of the competencies and interests. The participants will be from from the Employment Service Centres (ESCs), government, employers and workers organizations and few key trainers from reputed capacity development training institutions.

  6. Exposure visit to Nepal to study migrant worker resource centre operations and regulations

    15 - 17 August 2016

    The ILO EU-funded South Asia Labour Migration Governance (SALM) project conducted a three-day study visit for staff of Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) of Islamabad and Lahore to Nepal from 15 to 17 August, 2016. The main objective of the visit was to understand and learn in depth the structure, daily operation, service delivery and outreach work of four models of MRCs operational in Nepal.

    In response to the call made by ILO Director General on the “Future of Work Initiative” and considering its long term importance for Nepal, the Ministry of Labour and Employment (Government of Nepal), is organizing a tripartite plus workshop namely “National Dialogue on Future of Work in Nepal” on the 28 June 2016 in Kathmandu.

  9. Declaration of "Child Labour Free Zones"

    12 - 14 June 2016

    On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, additional four wards within Kavrepalanchok and Lalitpur districts are geared up to translate their commitments into action by declaring "Child Labour Free Zones". As per the plan, ward numbers 12 and 13 in Panauti, ward no. 7 in Banepa municipality including ward no. 20 in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City will be declared as "Child Labour Free Zones" on 12 and 14 June respectively. The individual houses, workshops and firms in the child labour free zones to be declared by the ACHIEVE Project supported municipalities will be hosting the "Green Flags" symbolizing they are free from child labour. Six wards, one in Lalitpur and five in Kavrepalanchok were declared as "Child Labour Free Zones" in 2014 and 2015 respectively and are monitored upon periodically to prevent the child labour recurrence.

  10. Tripartite Plus Workshop on "Child Labour and Supply Chains"

    To mark the World Day Against Child Labour 2016, the ILO in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment is organizing a half day Tripartite plus Workshop to bring together all the key actors from the government, social partners and civil society into one platform for an enriched discussion around the issue of "Child Labour and Supply Chains". The workshop will reinforce collaboration and commitments from the key stakeholders for an increased child labour elimination efforts in Nepal.

  11. Study Tour/Exposure Visit for Delegates from Bangladesh to Nepal

    22 - 28 May 2016

    A study tour is organized by the Way Out of Informality Project (WOI) for a Delegation of officials from government, workers and employers and key stakeholders from Bangladesh from 22 to 28 May 2016. The exposure visit is to share knowledge and exchange of good practices under the Project to enhance joint capacities for the formalization of informal enterprises of the construction sector.

  12. Consultative cum sharing workshop: Occupational code system in Nepal

    12 May 2016

    The one-day consultative workshop will gather views and practical ideas from various stakeholders to finalize the Occupational Code System in Nepal (OCSN) and have a better understanding of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO).

  13. Seminar on Promoting Responsible and Sustainable Business Practices in Nepal

    10 - 11 May 2016

    The Seminar will bring together representatives of governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, enterprises and experts from ILO to share information and exchange experiences on Responsible Business Practices (RBP). It will shed light on why value chain sustainability is important for commercial growth and will provide actionable insights into collaboration, business strategy and stakeholders engagement.
