ILO and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) discuss steps for creating an enabling business environment

The meeting focused on the policy environment and practical issues related to business development, employment creation, industrial relation and promoting social dialogue.

Mr Richard Howard, newly appointed Director for ILO Country Office in Nepal and Mr Pashupati Murarka, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), discussed mutual cooperation and the need to create an enabling environment for business sector in Nepal.

Mr. Shekhar Golchha, Chairperson of the Employers’ Council and Vice President of the FNCCI, highlighted multiple possibilities for creating jobs and employment for young people in Nepal. Mr. Golchha, noted that economic development should be the prime concern for all stakeholders. The discussions  focused on the draft Labour Act and Social Security Act including implementation of the National Employment Policy.  Possible areas of cooperation with FNCCI and the ILO were discussed for socio economic development.

Ms Meena Shrestha, Director General and Mr. Hansaram Pandey, Director from FNCCI and Messrs Saloman Rajbhanshi, Senior Programme Officer and Prakash Sharma, Project Coordinator from ILO also participated in the meeting.

Mr. Howard expressed his strong commitment to facilitate policy improvements and programme implementation for strengthening the business environment in the future. Messrs. Murarka and Golchha, extended sincere thanks to ILO for continued cooperation and wilingness to collaborate in future interventions.
