ILO and MoLE/DoL sign MoU to improve Employment Services in Nepal

An impetus on improving the access to basic quality employment services that helps Nepalese job seekers especially the youth is underway following the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), Department of Labour (DoL), Nepal and International Labour Organization on 9 July, 2015.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), Department of Labour (DoL), Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9 July, 2015 with the International Labour Organization (ILO) for the implementation of KOICA funded ‘Labour Market Information and Employment Services (LIFE) Project in Nepal. The MoU was signed by Mr. Rabindra Mohan Bhattarai, Director General, DoL, MoLE and Mr. Jose Assalino, Country Director, ILO Nepal. Presence on the occasion were Mr. Barun Kumar Jha - Director Technical, Mr. Hari Prasad - Director Administration and Mr. Prem Raj Luintel - Section Officer from DoL, MoLE and Ms. Nita Neupane - Programme Officer, Mr. Saurav Ram Joshi - National Project Coordinator, Ms. Sheela Sharma - Admin. Finance Assistant from ILO. The MoU is for three (3) years project period.

Speaking at the signing, ILO Nepal Country Director Mr. Jose Assalino thanked the MoLE especially Director General, DoL and his department members for this initiative of Labour Market Information and Employment Services in Nepal. He emphasized the importance of employment services especially in present context of massive earthquake disaster. He pointed out the collaboration between ILO and DoL will improve the access to Labour Market Information and quality of employment services provided by the public Employment Services Centres.

Mr. Rabindra Mohan Bhattarai, Director General, DoL briefed the project objectives and its activities and said, primary objective of this initiative is to implement commitments of Government in the area of human resources development by supporting government line agencies in designing; implementing and assessing improvements in selected building blocks of their skills development systems in order to better connect training to productive and decent work. During the event Mr. Bhattarai focused on employee satisfaction through the job matching with their skills, making right person in right place for which project’s support is essential and thus improving quality of employment services.

Mr. Barun Kumar Jha, Director Technical, DOL, also focused on the mismatch of job and skills prevalent in Nepalese job market and therefore, a dire need of matching job with required skills. Furthermore, he mentioned that the project will put its effort to address this issue through increasing the access of young men and women to basic essential employment services. Now, the activities of the project will be started soon to achieve its stipulated outcomes.
