News | 02 November 2010

The ILO and the Ministry of Labour of Nigeria announced a partnership in implementing measures aimed at creating jobs and reducing unemployment.

ILO Coordinator on the Global Jobs Pact, Mr David Lamotte and the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu met to analyse the country situation, finalise the implementation strategy of the pact and formulate policy actions.

Lamotte said that his visit to Nigeria was to meet with stakeholders and together design an action plan to reduce unemployment, especially among youth and create jobs. Early next year, another ILO delegation led by ILO Employment Executive Director, Mr Jose Manuel Salazar-Xirinach will visit the country to assess Nigeria’s readiness to implement job-led measures supported by the Pact.
