Global Jobs Pact Country Profile: The Bahamas

Document | 17 March 2010

Since mid-2009 several employment initiatives aimed at creating jobs in the infrastructure and transport systems have been implemented in the Bahamas. In addition to a Government stimulus package in the amount of US$ 250 million, a national training programme has been established. The programme targets training and internships for 1,000 persons, representing 10 per cent of the unemployed workforce, in sectors where they are likely to find employment after completing the programme.

Tax incentives and financing facilities have been extended to small entrepreneurs in order to set up or expand businesses. The Government is also establishing a microfinance fund for enterprise development and technical and vocational training activities.
