Progress in the education and skills levels of youth are not sufficient enough to reduce unemployment if the education choices of students are not in line with the demands of the labour market. Providing support to youth when they have to make tough choices on what school to join, or what job to take, helps to bridge this gap. This manual is intended to help reconcile the education choices of young Indonesians with the jobs that are available on the market.

One roof school program and its impact on child labour: a case study in Sukabumi District

Indonesia is one of the countries committed to achieving Education for All (EFA) and in its effort to achieve EFA, the Government of Indonesia, among others, launched the ONE ROOF SCHOOL PROGRAM in 2005. One roof schools are where junior secondary education (JSE) of 3 class rooms is built on the same site as a primary school. Where funding is not available to build new classrooms, one roof school function using the primary school building in the afternoon and many one roof schools are using their primary schools teachers to teach JSE students. Primary and Junior Secondary School can be managed by one management, or by two separate managements.

Report of workshop on sharing lessons learnt on the SCREAM implementation at school level

The sharing knowledge workshops were conducted in three provinces; West Java, Central Java, and East Java. In each province, a one and a half day workshop consisting of plenary and small group discussions was facilitated by at least one facilitator for each workshop. Each of the participating schools was required to prepare presentation and present the SCREAM activities in their school, including challenges encountered in implementing the SCREAM at school level and lessons learnt for the future implementation of SCREAM at school level.

Indonesia has been selected as a pilot county for the Joint ILO/UNWTO Project. The objective of this Joint Project is to carry out an in-depth study on possible ways of applying the latest international recommendations in the field of tourism statistics to produce new sets of data on employment in the tourism industries beyond the TSA. Another objective of the study is to present the scope of Indonesia’s Decent Work Indicators and to suggest which of these could be used to measure progress on decent work in the tourism industries.

In order to contribute to the elimination of child labour, ILO-IPEC in partnership with Teachers’ Association of Indonesia Republic (PGRI) have implemented a project on “Mobilization and capacity-building of teacher’s association and wider trade unions in Indonesia in Eliminating Child Labour”. The activities conducted were, among others, SCREAM related activities.
