BackgroundThere were an estimated 640,000 persons living with HIV (PLHIV) in Indonesia in 2018. The numbers of PLHIV are highest in Jakarta and in the highly populated provinces of Java, as well as in Papua and West Papua. Although the transmission type driven in earlier years by needle sharing among People Who Inject Drugs (PWID), sexual transmission is now the primary mode of transmission of HIV. HIV projections indicate a modest but steady rise and more stable numbers about 49,000 new infections per year. (MoH - IBBS Report 2016, launched in 2017).
The ILO responds to the HIV epidemic by providing technical assistance and support through a range of workplace programs. Specifically to contribute concretely to UNAIDS 90-90-90 treatment targets and more specifically to HIV testing in the world of work, the ILO promotes launched VCT at work initiative and promote because the workplace offer unique opportunities to reach women and men workers with HIV confidential and voluntary HIV counselling and testing services at the workplace.
PT Angkasa Pura II, a state-owned company that operates all airports country wide with 14 branches and 9000 employees, has been assisted by ILO in 2018 to develop a leadership commitment on non-discrimination policy addressing HIV, HIV prevention education and facilitating access of workers to voluntary counseling and testing including. As the result of training of trainers which provided by ILO, the workplan of HIV/AIDS program implementation and was developed established in January of 2019 and HIV/AIDS focal points team of Angkasa Pura II was formally established as part of management structure in June 2019. The top management of Angkasa Pura II involved the ILO global campaign on VCT at work by supporting the testimony on VCT at work poster and it was circulated in their internal media.
