Training of Trainers on HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme for Members of Indonesia Employers' Association (APINDO)

ILO has established a collaboration with Indonesia Employers’ Association (APINDO) to promote HIV and AIDS prevention at workplace in the past years. The continuation of promoting HIV and AIDS prevention at the workplace is important to increase the enterprises’ response in preventing the new HIV infection among productive ages and ensure stable production at enterprises.

As a part of World AIDS Day in November 2018, ILO conducted a half day meeting with representative of Senior Leader of APINDO purposes to promote Non Discriminatory Policy at Workplace. Through the event, APINDO developed a commitment among APINDO members for a non-discriminatory policy on HIV and AIDS prevention education at workplace.

Five companies of APINDO members showed directly their interest to conduct HIV and AIDS prevention education at the workplace. It is followed up by other APINDO members and APINDO board to improve their knowledge on HIV and AIDS.

APINDO members showed their willingness to improve the initiative on scaling up the HIV and AIDS prevention program to their members due to several cases occurred among worker living with HIV who get ignored by co-workers in the companies. APINDO as a part of tripartite takes a significant role in increasing the knowledge on HIV and AIDS among members by implementing HIV and AIDS prevention program to provide assistance of HIV prevention and a significant support on referral system of treatment. A non-discriminatory policy on HIV and an integrated program of HIV and AIDS prevention program in the companies are the basis to increase HIV awareness for all staffs.

However, prioritizing the most vulnerable sector is an important matter to reach out 4 M criteria (Mobile Men with Money in Masculine Environment) to tackle HIV spread and reduce the number of new HIV infection. The vulnerable sectors such as: constructions, mining, metal, agriculture, health, and tourism are important to be prioritized.

A significant action is needed to improve the capacity of APINDO members and representative of companies to develop a non-discriminatory policy on HIV and educate HIV and AIDS prevention among members and provide assistance on referral system to access HIV treatment with respective members by linking to HIV service providers. A training of trainers is essential to support a significant respond of companies.

ILO continues the support APINDO members to conduct Training of HIV and AIDS for APINDO members and representative of companies. Through the training, company will be expected to develop a strategic action plan on non-discriminatory policy at workplace and HIV and AIDS prevention program.
