Micro and small enterprises in Timor-Leste still needs to upgrade and strengthen their business operations through business counseling, training, upgrading productivity and developing business capacities for process improvement, product development and market access.

Background

The Instituto de Apoio Ao Desenvolvimento Empresarial (Institute of Business Support/IADE) is an autonomous institute under the tutelage of the Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs. IADE’s role is to inform, train and support micro, small and medium sized entrepreneurs and to unlock business opportunities and market access in order to enable the private sector to contribute to the growth of Timor-Leste’s economy.

In 2013, IADE started the Business Plan Competition (BPC) to seek innovative business ideas from potential and existing entrepreneurs. The 10 candidates of the BPC will receive business support services in order for them to take the first steps toward in implementing their innovative business ideas. It is to encourage private sector investments in innovative idea or early stage start-up companies developing innovative products that can be marketed.

Micro and Small Enterprises can use the facility to upgrade and strengthen their business operation through business counseling, training, upgrading productivity and developing business capacities for process improvement, product development and market access.

IADE has provided candidates of Business Plan Competition with Generate Your Business Ideas. IADE is planning to organize a public seminar for entrepreneurship in July to motivate the participants in starting a business. In addition, six business development centers will only deliver group counseling for BPC candidates (because of the limited number of participants) and remaining business development centers deliver training programme for 9 days.
