A Series of Professional and Business Coaching Skills Training Programmes for the Institute for Business Support (IADE) of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs

The Timorese private sector faces a myriad of impediments, including the lack of market access for products and services, the ineffective utilization of local resources or opportunities, and the limited and often ineffective involvement of civil works contractors in Government service delivery such as infrastructure works.

Background

The Business Opportunities and Support Services (BOSS) Project supports the Institute for Business Support (IADE) of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs in boosting local economic development, enhancing Government service delivery and creating quality employment in rural areas by expanding market access for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), strengthening local contractors and improving the provision of business development services. The BOSS Project aims at ensuring nation-wide access to enhanced and innovative need and market oriented business development services through assisting IADE and its network of Business Development Centres (BDCs).

The Timorese private sector faces a myriad of impediments, including the lack of market access for products and services, the ineffective utilization of local resources or opportunities, and the limited and often ineffective involvement of civil works contractors in Government service delivery such as infrastructure works. The key cause of these problems lies in the absence of the most valuable input for any economic activity: business skill and experience and finding information, in particular to solve the business problems.

IADE to date has limited experience in providing business counselling coach to growth oriented clients and therefore requires significant support and guidance. These clients are categorized as a growth oriented business with an investment more than 20,000 USD and looking to improve their business. These types of clients require different skills and methodology in analyzing their business problem and finding solution.

Objectives

Against this background, the BOSS project intends to provide follow up after training on coaching skills to IADE staff. The purpose of this activity is to provide IADE and CDE staff with skills on how to apply the business coach to entrepreneurs.
