Needs Assessment Training Workshop for Micro Enterprise Development

To facilitate stakeholders in a better position to use a systematic and relevant labour market information and to deliver business development services to the community that includes; (i) Support potential local business (micro enterprise) development in Papua and West Papua; (ii) Facilitation of access to finance to selected local business groups; and (iii) Establishment of Micro Enterprise Development Centre/ Incubation Initiatives.

Background

The Institutionalizing Sustainable Livelihood Development funded by the Government of New Zealand and executed by UNDP and International Labour Organization aims at contributing to Improved community welfare, in particular of indigenous Papuans through the functioning of local Government and civil society basic systems and processes for sustainable livelihood development in Papua region.

To facilitate stakeholders in a better position to use a systematic and relevant labour market information and to deliver business development services to the community that includes; (i) Support potential local business (micro enterprise) development in Papua and West Papua; (ii) Facilitation of access to finance to selected local business groups; and (iii) Establishment of Micro Enterprise Development Centre/ Incubation Initiatives.

To support indentified 450 potential local businesses (micro enterprise) that owned by Indigenous Papuans in 5 piloted districts in Papua and West Papua Province, through this project, ILO will undertake series of capacity building activities at district level to build their skills on entrepreneurship, business management and marketing. Before the implementation phase, UNDP have conducted series of baseline assessment that covers identification of beneficiaries (local selected business groups), database development, mapping of household income, and identifying selected local business group needs).

Training

Objectives

To identify training needs, in order to effectively implement micro enterprise development training and develop training strategy to ensure the delivery of services fulfill the beneficiaries’ needs and delivered in good quality standard. This training strategy will be used by trainers, local implementing partners that will be strengthen as business development services provider and local government;

To strengthen the capacity of exist local trainers from the previous project on providing micro enterprise development training and after training supports for 450 Indigenous Papuans in five piloted districts in Papua and West Papua;

To formulate and modify the ILO training manual based on GET Ahead, Financial Education for Family and Good practices from previous project that fit to the needs of beneficiaries or 450 selected local businesses; and

To strengthen the programme coordination, implementation, and monitoring between selected local implementing agencies, UNDP District Project Assistant, Enterprise Development Associate UNDP, and ILO in implementing micro enterprise development training and after training support in 5 piloted districts;

Outputs

Training strategy based on the needs of training are identified and developed in order to effectively implement micro enterprise development training and fulfil the beneficiaries needs;

Provincial trainers from the previous project are able to providing micro enterprise development training and after training support used a clear training manual which is modification from GET Ahead and Financial Education training module targeting 450 indigenous peoples; and

Micro Enterprise Development Training and after training support will properly implemented in coordination, implementation, and monitoring between selected local implementing agencies, UNDP district project assistant, and ILO.
