70 Years of Indonesia and the United Nations: Celebrating and working together

The International Labour Organization (ILO) participated in an interactive discussion, titled “UN and Indonesia at 70: Successes and Challenges in Seven Decades of Growth and Development”, in Jakarta on 12 November.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) participated in an interactive discussion, titled “UN and Indonesia at 70: Successes and Challenges in Seven Decades of Growth and Development”, in Jakarta on 12 November. The discussion was part of the joint celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and the Republic of Indonesia under the theme: “United Nations Day 2015: Celebrating 70 Years of Working Together”.

We are ready to continue and expand our international cooperation with the United Nations that also need global commitment, global partnership and global actions from all of us."

Francesco d’Ovidio, Country Director of ILO in Indonesia was one of the speakers together with Sugeng Bahagijo, Executive Director of INFID, an International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development, Dr Sharad Adhikary, Environmental Health Advisor of WHO Indonesia and Dr. Beginda Pakpahan, a lecturer from the Faculty of Political and Social Science of University of Indonesia.

This interactive discussion was moderated by Ross Solly, Journalist from ABC News Indonesia, covering issues on sustainable development in Indonesia, universal health coverage and sustainable enterprises to create more and better jobs.

The event was opened by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Retno L.P Marsudi. Minister Retno emphasized the commitment of Indonesia to continue, strengthen and expand its international cooperation and collaboration with the United Nations. “We are ready to continue and expand our international cooperation with the United Nations that also need global commitment, global partnership and global actions from all of us,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Douglas Broderick, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Indonesia, said “The UN Indonesia is proud to be celebrating the country’s many achievements with the Millennium Development Goals, and we look forward to working with the government on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the next 15 years.”

In addition, other agenda of UN Day 2015 included the interactive discussion on Indonesia and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security as well as other UN presentation and presentation in the formats of medal grants and video screenings.
