DILI (ILO News): The ILO’s Business Opportunities and Support Services (BOSS) Project developed the Super Trainer campaign to present desirable characteristics of entrepreneurs and promoting entrepreneurship in Timor-Leste. The Super Trainer movies won the Second Prize in the Category Promotional and Tourism Movies, Educational Movies and TV Spots at the 6th Hanoi International FICTS Festival - Sport, Tourism, Movies & TV in July 2012.
The Super Trainer campaign has six episodes presented in various ways: movies, video training modules, radio spots and comic strips, all of which were produced by Pixelasia Productions Dili, Lda. The BOSS’s Projects main partner, the Institute for Business Support (Instituto de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Emprezarial – IADE) currently implements the campaign through national media. The movies are screened by the national television, TVTL; all national and community radio stations broadcast the radio spots and the comics are regularly printed by newspapers. The video training modules are being integrated in IADE’s training courses, and also used by other development partners for similar purposes.
IADE’s Super Trainer is a modern day hero in Timor-Leste. He helps Timorese entrepreneurs to make their business more profitable and shows them how to do business in a better way. He intervenes when entrepreneurs make common entrepreneurial mistakes observed across Timor-Leste.
One of the six Super Trainer episodes, Mautunu, a fish griller in Dili, features a special guest star: Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, Timor-Leste’s former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Dr. Ramos-Horta, a client of Mautunu, supports the Super Trainer in his intervention and explanations.
Lena Lenzen, director of Pixelasia explains “Super Trainer was awarded because the movies show that Timor-Leste has grown into a peaceful, vibrant country that is now at the stage to improve its local businesses. Another criteria might have been that the movies have a fun and entertaining concept combining a Super Hero with Business Education.”
Super Trainer’s adventures can be watched online:
Comic versions of each of the episodes are also available on IADE’s website: http://www.iade.gov.tl/tet/legals//.
The BOSS Project is fully funded by Irish Aid and supports IADE to become an effective provider of enhanced and innovative need and market oriented business development services. Due to the BOSS Project’s activities, IADE is now a nationally accredited training provider, offering business management courses with national certifications which are delivered by IADE’s team of qualified and certified trainers. In addition to training and counseling IADE now also offers innovative business information and promotion services, such as business matchmaking, introduced by the BOSS Project. Recently, IADE launched its Tender Information System, which enables IADE to reach out to entrepreneurs in remote rural areas by SMS, the only media with outreach in Timor-Leste. This way, IADE now provides targeted business information, including tender information, to entrepreneurs throughout the country.
