This report provides insight into the rationale behind the pilot test of the project, Decent Public Transport for Working Women, and a detailed overview of the project design, development and activities. The project was intended to pilot test the concept of women-friendly public transportation facilities, on Route No. 1, between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The purpose of introducing women-friendly public transportation was to encourage women to step out of their homes into the public sphere, for work and social life. It was believed that by having women-friendly rather than women-exclusive transportation facilities, the external environment can be made more conducive to women's mobility.
