  1. Government empowers a Steering Committee (SC) to steer the implementation of the Pakistan’s DWCPIII

    The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development convened the first meeting of the Steering Committee on Pakistan’s third Decent Work Country Programme). The meeting took stock of the progress of the DWCP-III and discussed strategies and the way forward to enhance its implementation and monitoring.

    ILO Country Office in Islamabad organised a one-day Consultation gathering National Social Security Institutions, relevant Departments and Organisations, and four provincial ESSI representatives to discuss the challenges and develop the province-specific strategy to reform Pakistan Social Security System.

  3. Mega event to mark the World Day against Child Labour-2018

    The EU funded project ‘Sustaining strengthened national capacities to improve ILS compliance and reporting in relevant EU trading partners’ supported Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Department of Labour in arranging a mega event in Peshawar on July 10, 2018 to mark the World Day against Child Labour (WDACL). The event was held under the theme ‘Generation Safe & Healthy’

  4. Businesses re-affirm their commitment to promote decent work in supply chains

    On 28th June, the 2nd Business Round Table on Promoting Decent Work and Fundamental Rights in Value Chains was convened under the aegis of Child Labour Platform . Stakeholders affirmed their commitment to promote decent work in supply chains by identifying specific measures to be taken. The event was organized under the ILO-Stora Enso Partnership that aims to eliminate child labour and promote decent work in supply chains, with a focus on Pakistan

  5. Sindh labour department completes the consultation process of drafting rules of business for implementation of labour laws

    The Government of Sindh with the technical support of ILO’s German funded project on Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains and the EU funded International Labour and Environmental Standards in Pakistan’s SME’s organised its’ second tripartite plus stakeholders consultation from 26-27 June 2018. The objective of the consultation was to gather inputs on its draft Rules of Business for the recently promulgated labour laws.

    A national consultative meeting of the Chief Inspectors of Mines (CIMs) was convened in Quetta to foster experience sharing and discuss capacity building needs for the improvement of working and safety conditions in the mining sector of Pakistan.

  8. Assessment of skill gaps and Decent Work deficits in selected agro food value chains

    11 May 2018

    Over 30 representatives from Govt. of Glgit Baltistan Province; UN; INGOs; Academia an famer’s groups unanimously validated the key findings of the Assessment Study, presented by Baltistan Cultural Development Foundation (BCDF) at the workshop in Gilgit. The study was commissioned under One UN project on Agro-food value chains, jointly being implemented by ILO and UNIDO. The study aimed to identify the skills gaps and decent work deficits in the value chains of cherry; apple and trout fish in GB province. The findings will help design the skills development initiatives to address the identified gaps and help farmers and processors to bring improvements in the working conditions and livelihood.

  9. 13th annual employer awards on Occupational Safety and Health

    Every year worldwide 28th April marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work. This year was commemorated under the theme “Generation Safe and Healthy”. In Pakistan this day was marked by the ILO and its constituents through an event hosted by the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) in Karachi on 7th May to reaffirm their commitment towards the common goal of safer workplaces and healthy workers in Pakistan. The event was attended by 175 delegates from the employer community, workers representatives, chamber of commerce and related federal and provincial government officials.  

  10. Sindh Labour Department embarks on the implementation of labour laws by drafting rules of business

    The legislative process does not stop once a bill becomes law. To put laws into practice rules formation is a key step. The Labour and Human Resource Department Sindh took lead and organized a two day tripartite plus consultation on 3rd and 4th May 2018 to draft rules for six labour laws.

  12. Sialkot sports goods sector promotes a level playing field

    The Employers Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with Baidarie and with the technical assistance of ILO under the Japan Government funded Project on “More and Better Jobs through Socially Responsible Labour Practices in the sports goods industry in Sialkot” held a sensitization event with stakeholders on the importance of sports activities to achieve decent work.

  13. Collective bargaining and effective negotiation skills to promote decent work in Pakistan

    The ILO Pakistan Office, under the on Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) project, conducted a four-day training on organizing and collective bargaining for workers and trade unions in Faisalabad during 26-29 March 2018.

  14. Thirteenth batch of national labour inspectors’ training program completed

    The ILO Country Office in Pakistan organized a three days training for the 4th batch of Inspecting staff of the Department of Labour Punjab under its Dutch funded project on Strengthening Labour Inspection Systems in Pakistan (SLISP).

    To identify reasons for low Female Labour Migration in Pakistan, ILO-Islamabad has initiated a national study under its EU-funded REFRAME Project and organized a Tripartite Consultation to discuss the matter in detail and identify avenues for improvement.

  17. Effective collective bargaining and negotiation skills for industrial harmony

    The ILO Pakistan Office, under its flagship project, Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC), organized a four day training workshop on ‘Collective Bargaining and Negotiations Skills’ in Islamabad from 5-8 March, 2018. The objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacities of the stake holders of the world of work, promote healthy industrial relations and foster a culture of strengthened social dialogue that contributes to productivity and industrial peace. The participants constituted of the representatives of the government, employers and workers organizations.

  18. Achieving gender equality through collective bargaining

    The ILO Pakistan Office, under the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) project, commemorated the International Women Day, and organised an exclusive session on ‘’Women and Collective Bargaining’, under the overall theme of ‘Time is Now: Urban and Rural Activists transforming lives of women’. The ceremony was attended by the ILO tripartite constituents, Ministry of OPHRD, Representatives of the Employers and Workers, Academia, Civil Society, Journalist and a cross section of society.

  19. Third batch of Labour Inspectors’ Nationwide Training Program completed in Punjab

    The Strengthening Labour Inspection Project in Pakistan completed a three day training for the 3rd batch of Labour Inspectors of the Department of Labour Punjab on 2nd March 2018. To date, the project has trained 331 labour inspectors [318 men and 13 women] of Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK, ICT, GB and Punjab.
