Islamabad: The tri-partite stake holders endorsed the broad joint strategy of ILO- UNHCR to provide support to workers from Afghan Refugees and Host Communities under the Afghan Management and Repatriation Strategy.

Islamabad: ILO, UNDP and UNFPA jointly arranged a National workshop titled “Contemporary Issues of Youth employment in Pakistan” here today. Islamabad: Four Provincial Labour Departments have agreed to draft a law to eliminate child labour from Pakistan. The new provincial law prohibiting child labour will replace the existing Employment of Children Act (ECA) 1991.

In response to floods in Sindh, ILO has launched “Cash for Work” Project for the flood-affected people in Districts of Badin and Mirpurkhas. Mr. Francesco d’Ovidio, Country Director, ILO office for Pakistan while launching the “Cash for Work for Flood Affected People” project stated, “This project will generate more than 35,000 of person day of employment to the flood affected people”.

“Hazardous child labour is on the rise in most of the world among older children age 15-17” was reported at a workshop being held by the ILO this week. The ILO is drawing attention to this urgent issue by commissioning new studies in Pakistan to examine occupational risks to children working in ten sectors.
