    The ILO Country Director for Pakistan, Mr Francesco d’Ovidio visited Peshawar on 17th August 2015 on his final mission to meet tripartite stakeholders (Government, Employers and Workers) in KP Province and review the ongoing support interventions.

  2. District Model for Social Protection Developed for KP Province

    In line with the Social Protection Floors Recommendation, 2012 (No. 202), a comprehensive social protection system for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been developed in consultation with the Federal and Provincial Governments and piloted in two Districts including Peshawar and Nowshera. To streamline this system, a three-day consultative workshop on ‘How to implement Social Protection Floors” was delivered by International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Planning & Development (P&D) Department of KP Government from 10-12 August

  1. ILO and Government of Pakistan sign Letter of Understanding to Support the PPP on Labour Law Compliance in the Textile Sector in Faisalabad

    The Government of Pakistan has committed to facilitating an enabling environment for the private sector to comply with international labour standards and labour laws in Pakistan. This was during the signing of the Letter of Understanding to support the Public Private Partnership on Labour Law Compliance in the Textile Sector in Faisalabad targeting 210 industrial units over the next three years.

  1. Soccer Ball Industry Model replicable for child labour elimination in GSP+ business environment

    Over 50 representatives from Government, Workers, Employers and economic sectors endorsed the Sialkot Soccer Ball Industry Model as a way forward for other industries to do business in the current GSP+ environment. This was during the final World Day Against Child Labour commemorative event convened by the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) in Lahore.

  2. Third Buyers Meeting on the Textile Sector in Pakistan

    The third Buyers Forum in Pakistan convened with a total of 19 international brand representatives on 23rd June 2015. The Buyers reaffirmed their commitment to better labour and environmental practices in the textile sector. The buyers also agreed to support three key areas i.e. strengthening labour inspection regime, addressing issues of contractual employment and supporting smaller manufacturers to improve international labour standards compliance.

  3. The United Nations in Pakistan convene a National Consultation on Youth Employment

    17 June 2015

    ILO and UNDP Pakistan convened a national consultation to discuss the current issues and constraints faced by youth in getting decent employment in Pakistan. The consultation was held under the auspices of the 2015 National Human Development Report for Pakistan which has three concurrent themes on Education, Employment and Engagement. With 64% of Pakistan’s population under the age bracket of 29 years, youth will be a critical force for shaping human development in the Pakistan.

  1. Repairing Collateral Damage; Decent Work for Temporarily Displaced Persons from North Waziristan Agency

    In October 2014, the ILO initiated a project on Employable Skills Development for Improved Livelihoods of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) as part of the UN System in Pakistan’s response to the crisis sparked by civil unrest. Since then, the project has imparted training to a total of 200 persons, 80 men and 120 women in marketable trades including competency based training in plumbing, electrical, tailoring and hand embroidery. The project is part of “Community Resilience Program” of the UNDP implemented through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (KP-TEVTA).

    The project fact sheet outlines the objectives, outcomes, major activities and other related information of One UN project ‘Livelihood Restoration, Protection and Sustainable Empowerment of Vulnerable Peasant Communities in the Sindh Province’. Government of Sindh steered the project which was jointly delivered between 2013-2016 by ILO, FAO and UN Women.
