ILO training workshop tackles child labour in agriculture in Lebanon

Hosting over 1.1 million registered Syrian refugees, Lebanon has seen a huge rise in child labour in recent years, much of it under hazardous conditions in the agricultural sector. An ILO “training of trainers” workshop took child labour practitioners to the heart of the fertile Beqaa Valley, to witness first-hand some of the hazards of child labour in agriculture.

I swim across the river to get to children at risk of child labour

Under the ILO ARISE Project in Zambia, a total of 3,000 children are targeted to be reached for child labour prevention through behaviour change and peer-to-peer education. To facilitate this process, 200 peer-to-peer educators have been trained by the project, among them Mr. Innocent Chitengi, from Chitwa community in Kaoma District. This is an inspiring story of a peer-to-peer educator.

While a ceremony was held in Yangon, with governmental, employers and workers organizations, civil society representatives, and international partners, Myanmar Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (My-PEC) also implemented awareness-raising activities in Mon and Kayin states, targeting one of the most concerning and vulnerable areas for child labour: the rural communities.
