    Rapid assessment on child labour in the urban informal sector in Jordan - Governorates of Amman, Mafraq and Irbid

    The key objective of this study is to provide up to date and detailed information on the dynamics and characteristics of child labourers who live in urban environments in Jordan and who work in the informal employment sector. While there was no specific intention that the research should focus on a particular nationality, the current situation in Jordan regarding Syrian refugees and national and international interest in how host communities are managing the high numbers of refugees means that the main nationalities focused on in this report are Syrian and Jordanian.

    Moving towards a child labour free Jordan – A collection of emerging good practices

    These good practices from this ILO-related project aim to document what worked well in creating conditions to prevent or eliminate child labour in Jordan. The examples range from developing a national strategy to combat child labour, documenting the prevalence of child labour, and facilitating communication between government ministries, to devising innovative approaches to address unique situations. Features of each good practice may be transferable to other national and regional contexts.

    This Report examines the related issues of child labour and youth marginalisation in the Arab States. It focuses in particular in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. All are conflict or conflict-affected societies where concerns relating to the well-being of children and youth are acute and where better information to inform policy is needed.

    This manual aims to provide probation officers and social workers with basic information on child labour, an understanding of the problem of child labour in terms of its causes, spread, effects, and means of dealing with it, as well as the methods of dealing with working children.

  2. Publication

    Plan of action to eliminate child labour in tourism in Petra

    23 April 2015

    The Plan of Action has been discussed and agreed following an inclusive consultation process and calls for urgent political and financial commitment within the context of relevant national policy and legislative frameworks, in particular the National Framework to Combat Child Labour. It will act as a key advocacy tool in mobilising national and international commitment and support for action to eliminate child labour in tourism in Petra.
