Contribution to the abolition of child labour in Francophone Africa

Objective: The objective of this project is to contribute to the abolition of child labour and its worst forms in Madagascar. By the end of the project, (1) through awareness-raising activities, different actors (parents, children, employers, unions, doctors, teachers, political and administrative officials, traditional and religious authorities) and the public will be sensitized on the dangers arising from hazardous working conditions in selected sectors; (2) the living conditions of working children will be improved and some groups of working children will be removed from child labour and viable alternatives will be offered to them and their families through direct action and (3) preparatory activities for the "Time Bound Programme" will be planned and completed.

 

Including the Excluded: Action against the worst forms of child labour through education networking

Objective: The main objective of this project is to contribute to the elimination of child labour through mainstreaming of child labour in education policies, plans and programmes at both the global and national level. By the end of the project; (1) governments and their social partners in the target countries will have increased capacity to achieve higher enrolment and completion rates for working children and make educational policies, plans, curricula and programs more responsive to the needs of working children, former child labourers and children at risk of working as a result of policy and technical advice provided by this project; (2) National and international dialogue on child labour, education and social exclusion strengthened through networking; (3) a strong knowledge base on how to use education to prevent and eliminate child labour will have been created and in use by governments and social partners and (4) the capacity for joint and separate action by governments, teachers, worker and employer organizations, NGOs and children and their families to use education to combat child labour will be increased.

 

Programme of support to the national time-bound programme for the elimination of the worst forms of child labour in Madagascar

Objective: The development objective of this project is to contribute to the Elimination of Child Labour in Madagascar. By the end of the project; (1) the knowledge base for planning, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating child labour interventions in Madagascar will be enhanced, (2) National capacity to combat the worst forms of child labour will be enhanced, (3) the legal framework for addressing child labour issues will be harmonized, reinforced and applied effectively, (4) the capacity of the education/vocational training/apprenticeship system to attract and retain children at risk of child labour will be strengthened, (5) the Malagasy society is more aware of the consequences of the worst forms of child labour (WFCL) and (6) an effective model interventions will be developed for the prevention, withdrawn and rehabilitation of boys and girls from the WFCL.

 

Contribution to the abolition of child labour in Francophone Africa

Objective: The aim of this project is to contribute to the abolition of child labor in Francophone Africa. The project will achieve this objective by (1) ensuring the consolidation and sustainability of the action programs during previous phases of projects in Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Togo; (2) national capabilities to develop direct actions are developed to abolish child labor in Morocco, Senegal and Madagascar are reinforced through large projects and (3) children are removed from work through training and professional learning relevant and responsive needs of each country (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Togo)

 

Contribution to the abolition of child labour in Francophone Africa

Objective: This project will contribute to the elimination of child labor in Francophone Africa. By the end of the project, (1) the results achieved during previous IPEC projects in Benin Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Morocco, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo will be sustained and supported by national bodies (2) in Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Togo and Senegal, children will be withdrawn from work through vocational training based on the needs of each country (3) the quantitative and qualitative data on child labour will be collected, processed, analyzed and disseminated and (4) at the sub-regional level, funding of activities in each of 8 countries will be ensured, the exchange of experience is facilitated and partnerships are insured for greater efficiency.

 

Tackling Child Labour through Education (TACKLE)

Objective: The overall objective of this project is to contribute towards poverty reduction in Angola, Fiji, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Pap New Guinea, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Zambia by providing equitable access to basic education and skills development to the most disadvantaged section of the society. By the end of this project: (1) country level legal framework will be prepared or strengthened where already in existence: (2) institutional capacity will be strengthened leading to improved ability to formulate and implement child labour strategies; (3) targeted actions to combat child labour will be designed and implemented and (4) advocacy and dissemination of good practices will be improved to enhance knowledge base and networks on child labour and education.
