Supporting the Time-Bound Programme to eliminate the Worst Forms of Child Labour in South Africa’s Child Labour Action Programme and laying the basis for concerted action against Worst Forms of Child Labour in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland

Objective: This project will contribute to the elimination of the worst form of child labour (WFCL) in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) region by supporting the national Plan of Action in South Africa and enhancing the capacity to address this issue in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland (BLNS countries). By the end of the project; (1) there will be more effective policies and programmes for tackling child labour, especially in its worst forms, in South Africa, (2) models of intervention for dealing with selected WFCL in South Africa will have been developed to inform policy, (3) there will be an enabling environment for the elimination of WFCL in the BLNS countries, leading to effective national interventions against this problem and (4) there will be more effective policies and programmes for tackling sub-regional child labour issues, especially in its worst forms, in the SACU region.

 

Project development, awareness raising and support for the implementation of the global action plan to eliminate the worst forms of child labour by 2016

Objective: This project will contribute to targeted action by member States by enabling ILO-IPEC to plan, design and provide support in the context of the Global Plan of Action to national action on child labour and to the worldwide movement through global and regional mainstreaming and knowledge sharing and awareness raising through World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL). At the end of this project: (1) new projects with improved quality will have been designed and selected projects will have received direct beneficiary monitoring support, (2) WDACL activities in a number of countries will have contributed to enhanced awareness raising and mobilization of key individuals and communities and (3) specific capacity will have been strengthened at the national, regional and global level in support of targets set forth in the Global Action Plan.

 

Towards the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour Phase II: Supporting and Monitoring the implementation of National Plans of Action in 3 Core countries of Southern Africa

Objective: The aim of this project is to Contribute to the elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour (WFCL) and other forms in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa by supporting the implementation of National Plans of Action in these countries. By the end of the project; (1) capacity of the key partners in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa will have been strengthened to more effectively mainstream child labour issues into legislative and policy frameworks and take action against WFCL, and awareness will have been raised among the general public and among key stakeholders, (2) models of intervention (focusing on education and HIV/AIDS) for addressing selected WFCL and prioritised forms of child labour in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa will have been developed, tested and further mainstreamed through policy interventions involving direct action programs.
