The subject of child labour is a pressing socio-economic and human rights issue, as it is estimated that more than 218 million children worldwide are engaged in child labour (ILO, 2006). These children are deprived of adequate education, good health, and other basic needs. In economic terms, individual children pay the highest price of child labour, but communities and countries suffer as well.
This Good Practices and Lessons Learnt report is based on the ILO-IPEC Project known as the Support to the National Plan of Action on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour (NPA-WFCL), a Time Bound Approach (or the TBP SP) Started on 30 September 2004. The project's overall objective is to contribute to the achievement of the national goal of eliminating identified worst forms of child labor in Cambodia and the creation of a platform for eliminating all forms of child labour.
This strategy was commissioned by IPEC in collaboration with the ILO's Social Finance Unit (SFU) to develop a sustainable microfinance component that includes a broad range of financial services tailored to the needs of the IPEC target groups for use in the Time-Bound Programmes. The strategy will strengthen the impact and sustainability of microfinance components in IPEC projects, through partnering with experienced microfinance providers.
