Child labour country brief on current data from SIMPOC surveys based on common indicators
Guidelines prepared under the ILO/IPEC Sub-regional Project, Prevention and Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Central America and the Dominican Republic. These guidelines attempt to take into consideration the different stages of specific care: prevention, strategies for detection, withdrawal and protection, the type of care services and also other aspects such as gender, ethnicity, age, etc.
The results presented here come from the child labour module included in the ENTIA 2000; the survey was carried out by the Ministry of Labour of Nicaragua and had support from SIMPOC. The purpose was to collect information on the school, household, economic, and recreational activities of children aged 5-17 years in the country.
This study has been undertaken within the framework of the project ent it led 'Prevention and Eliminat ion of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic', as a tool to guide strategies aimed at preventing this social problem, and especially as a means to carry out effect ive awareness- raising campaigns.
This is an analysis of the situation of working children in Nicaragua focuses on those girls and boys who had been working during the week preceding the ENTIA 2000 survey (National Survey on Child and Adolesc ent Labour), as well as the characteristic s of their households and general living conditions.
This report presents the results of the National Child Labour Survey conducted in Nicaragua in the year 2000.
