The Heliopolis Orchestra joins the Music Against Child Labour Initiative

The Heliopolis Orchestra will open the global concert series on 8 October at the opening of the III Global Conference on Child Labour in Brazil.

The Sao Paulo-based Heliopolis (Youth) Orchestra will give the first of a global concert series of the worldwide Music Against Child Labour Initiative on 8 October at the opening session of the III Global Conference on Child Labour in Brasilia. The opening session will also be addressed by President Dilma Rousseff and ILO Director General, Guy Ryder.

Maestro Claudio Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart launched the "Music Against Child Labour" Initiative in Paris on 11 June 2013. This joint Initiative of the ILO's International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) and its partners in the world of music, calls on orchestras, choirs and musicians of all genres worldwide to dedicate one concert in their planned programme between October 2013 and December 2014 to raise awareness about child labour. The Initiative also seeks to encourage further action to engage children in musical activity and education to promote their social inclusion and help protect them against child labour.

This morning in Brasilia, the Heliopolis Orchestra will pledge their support by performing and by signing the Music Initiative’s Manifesto. In conjunction with their performance, a short film launching the “Music Against Child Labour” Initiative will be premiered at the IIIrd Global Conference.
