Working Paper No. 10 - Improving occupational classifications as tools for describing labour markets: A summary of recent national experiences.

The author provides an "informed outsider's" view on the possibility of revising the International Standard Classification of Occupations 1988 (ISCO-88). She has used the national experiences in countries that recently or currently have been involved in their operational classifications which include Australia, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and some transition countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The purpose of this paper is to provide brief descriptions of the experiences in the above mentioned countries which helped write the recommendations for revising the ISCO 88 in Working Paper No. 9: Whither the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-88).
