Working Paper No. 40 - Statistics on the employment situation of people with disabilities: A Compendium of national methodologies

Type: Working paper
Date issued: 01 January 2004
Reference: WP/040[ILO_REF]
The problem is there lacks efficient statistical data on the employment of people with disabilities. A worldwide survey analyzed the different approaches used in measuring data, and the results showed that countries mainly rely on population censuses and household surveys of which less than 50 percent of the countries use the relevant international standards dealing with statistics on disability. Furthermore, the Washington City Group aims to develop a set of general disability measures by using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health which was issued by the World Health Organization. Overall, obtaining more effective statistics can improve the analysis of data concerning the employment of people with disabilities, and thus better suit their needs.
