ILO has partnerships and collaborates with other UN System Programmes and Agencies regarding indigenous issues at national level. Such activities are aimed at ensuring better cooperation between UN agencies on indigenous issues, and may be in the form of joint activities or technical contributions to their work.
The following are some examples of this cooperation:
- A partnership with WIPO to support a project on traditional knowledge (the Maasai Voices of Heritage: documenting and protecting Maasai heritage).
- Collaboration and joint activities with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia to address the situation of land rights of indigenous peoples
- Collaboration with the OHCHR to draft national legislation on the rights of indigenous peoples in Congo
In 2008, the UN Development Group developed Guidelines for the inclusion of indigenous peoples’ rights in the work of the UN Country Teams.
