ILO to publish a new report on child labour in domestic work

GENEVA – This year’s annual World Day against Child Labour (12 June) will put the spotlight on the plight of child labourers in domestic work.

On this occasion, the ILO will release a new report: “Ending child labour in domestic work: Protecting young workers in domestic work from abuse and exploitation”.

The new study provides figures on the number of children involved in domestic work. It also shows how they are often vulnerable to physical, psychological and sexual violence and abusive working conditions.

The report and all associated material and information are embargoed until Tuesday, 11 June at 22:00 GMT (midnight Geneva time on Wednesday, 12 June).

Attending the press briefing

For Geneva correspondents: A press briefing by Constance Thomas, Director of the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), will be held, under embargo, on Tuesday 11 June at 14:00 Geneva time in Press Room I at the Palais des Nations. Events for the World Day against Child Labour 2013

Media events, awareness raising campaigns, cultural performances will comprise the celebrations for this year’s World Day, which will be held in more than fifty countries around the world. Events will involve the participation of governments, employers and workers, other UN organisations and non-governmental organisations.
