    This panel will review recent developments in the region through the perspective of young people who made these changes happen by tackling the challenges of exclusion, poverty and inequality. Five young activists from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen, who were influential in profiling key issues, participating in protests and mobilizing peers into action on the streets of several cities of North Africa and the Middle East, will shed light on the socio-economic factors that drove them to become “agents of history”.

    The information session aims to give a perspective on how knowledge gathered on different work environment factors may contribute to establishing basic occupational health services, to providing a national overview, and to both setting and performing audit strategies, legislation and regulation, as well as policymaking. Examples of such an approach, and the practical use of work surveillance systems, will be highlighted as they are relevant to both developed and developing countries. One overall objective is to generate knowledge on the connection between work, sickness and health, determine these connections, evaluate risks and suggest preventive measures.

The panels will include ambassadors, ministers, and tripartite participants. Interpretation will be provided into English, Chinese and Portuguese.
