Events and meetings

The ILO Country Office for Viet Nam organizes and takes part in a number of events and meetings. Below is a list of upcoming and past events. Any queries should be sent to the office by email.

  1. Consultation Meeting on the Findings of the Scoping/Assessment Exercise Conducted on the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Roadmap on the Free Flow of Skilled Labour: Towards a Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN

    30 September 2013

    This meeting will discuss the findings of the ILO scoping study that took stock of the developments on the ASEAN Economic Community goals of the free flow of skilled labour in the ASEAN Member States and will develop a collective Action Plan to pursue the Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN. It will be attended by government representatives from ASEAN Member States and representatives from the regional workers’ and employers’ organization.

  2. Better Work Vietnam Shared Learning 2013: Preventing harassment at workplace

    Continuing a series of shared learning seminars organized by Better Work Vietnam, the topic in this quarter is "Preventing harassment at workplace".

  3. Workshop on gender-specific aspects of the revised Labour Code and Trade Union Law

    23 September 2013

    The new Labour Code and the Trade Union Law have some important changes that promote and protect women in the workplace.

  4. Career Orientation Day " Quang Nam - Da Nang students and tourism"

    21 September 2013

    Up to 1,000 tourism and foreign language students in Quang Nam and Da Nang provinces will take part in the first ever tourism job fair in Hoai River square of Hoi An City. Titled Quang - Da Students and Tourism, the fair is supported by the Quang Nam Province’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Hoi An People’s Committee, and is directly organised by Quang Nam’s Tourism Association with the support of the SIT project/ ILO and Labour Newspaper.

  5. Workshop to enhance collaboration and quality of tourism employment

    Workshop on Training cooperation between business vocational schools and tourism entreprises focuses on developing solutions to increase collaboration and improve training quality and employment opportunities.

  6. Study Visit to Migrant Resource Centres – Cambodia

    18 - 20 September 2013

    The three-day study visit will be hosted by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of the Kingdom of Cambodia and co-organized by the ILO ASEAN and GMS TRIANGLE Projects. It will allow participants to see the operation and management of Migrant Resource Centers (MRCs) in Cambodia, interspersed with a series of workshops to share experiences among representatives from five participating sending countries. The study visit will also show the different modalities of operating the MRC – through government institutions, civil society and trade unions, which can lead to improvements in service delivery of existing and future MRCs.

  7. Regional Meeting on Work in Fishing: Increased Knowledge Base and Sharing Good Practices for the Protection of Migrant Workers

    12 - 13 September 2013

    This two-day regional tripartite meeting co-hosted by the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of the Government of Indonesia and the ILO will present the international standards on work in fishing, share national policy and legislative framework among ASEAN Member States and States employing ASEAN workers, and share experiences on the protection of migrant workers in this sector in the region and around the world. The meeting will increase knowledge base and share data and research on the fishing sector and will consider recommendations for ASEAN regional partnerships and bilateral cooperation.

  8. Public-private dialogue focusing on tourism labour force

    10 September 2013

    The public – private dialogue on Quang Nam Province labour force will be organised by the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs with support from the SIT/ILO project. Through the dialogue, relevant provincial government agencies will learn about the difficulties and obstacles in labour and employment that tourism businesses and vocational training facilities are faced with, and will work to find suitable policy solutions to support them.

  9. Workshop on pension policy and recommendations on social insurance law reform

    6 September 2013

    The National Assembly, together with UNDP and the ILO, organised a workshop on September 6 to consider pension reform options. The event was chaired by the deputies of the Social Affairs and Budget and Finance Committees of the National Assembly. National and international experts offered their recommendations on amendments to the revised Social Insurance Law, which will be submitted to the 13th National Assembly at its seventh and eighth sessions in 2014 for adoption.

  10. Better Work Vietnam - Buyers' Forum in Phnom Penh

    5 September 2013

    Better Work Vietnam (BWV) and Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) will hold a Buyers' Forum on 4th and 5th September 2013. Each programme will have a separate meeting with international and local buyers in Phnom Penh while BWV Buyers' Forum will be on 5th September.

  1. Workshop on sharing the results of the actuarial valuation report

    22 August 2013

    At the training, the ILO senior actuary and lead author of the valuation, will share the ILO analysis of the current pension system, as well as ILO recommendations for the reform, including retirement age and pension formula changes.

  2. Workshop on Key Performance Indicators

    20 August 2013

    The workshop is designed to disseminate the tentative list of KPIs recommended by the ILO for Vietnam Unemployment Insurance. The event is aiming at (i)finalizing the set of indicators suggested by the international consultant in consultation with VSS, VGCL, VCCI and selected ESCs. (ii)agreeing on working mechanizms to report on the selected KPIs.

  3. Labour Law Seminar for Puma

    16 August 2013

    The new Vietnam Labour Law, which includes many changes, has been officially in effect from 1st May 2013. To support factories in capturing these changes quickly in order to adjust their policies and internal regulations accordingly, Better Work Vietnam organizes shared learning seminars dedicated to the topic "New Labour Law Update 2013".

  4. Seminar on "Evaluate the activities of Better Work Program in Viet Nam"

    The Centre for Industrial Relations Development of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Viet Nam and the Better Work Viet Nam Program will co-organize the seminar to clarify the goal, roles and activities of Better Work Vietnam Program, to evaluate the Program effectiveness after 4 years of operation as well as to draw lessons learnt and discuss the Program’s future orientation

  5. Viet Nam Tripartite Preparatory Meeting for the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour

    15 August 2013

    Viet Nam will hold its national preparatory meeting for the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour with tripartite partners and civil society. The national preparatory meeting for Viet Nam is organized by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and will be held on 15 August 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam with the support of the ILO ASEAN TRIANGLE Project and and Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers (TFAMW).

  6. Training workshop on the technical details of the ILO pension model

    12 - 16 August 2013

    At the training, the ILO specialists will explain how the ILO pension model works and how the specific model of Vietnam was built. The workshop will support the ILO Vietnamese partners, most notably VSS and MOLISA, to carry out actuarial valuations in the future using the ILO pension model.

  7. Training for enhancing Occupational Safety and Health activities: 12-16 August, 2013 in Ba Ria – Vung Tau

    12 - 16 August 2013

    Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in collaboration with ILO/Japan OSH project and Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA)will organize the OSH training to provide participants with the knowledge and experiences of Japanese good practices on: (i) practical, effective method of self – inspection at workplace; (ii) OSH promotional activities (5S, KYT, Zero-accident campaign) and; (iii) roles of Occupational Safety and Health Associations.

  8. Launching ceremony of National Wage Council

    6 August 2013

    The newly adopted Labour Code 2012 stipulates that “Based on the minimum living needs of the employee and his/her family, social and economic conditions, and wage levels in the labour market, the Government shall announce the regional minimum wage on the basis of the recommendation of the National Wage Council”. The introduction of this tripartite minimum wage fixing body in Vietnam recognizes the importance of participation of workers and employers (direct interested parties) into the Minimum Wage fixing process.

  1. The ILO/DOLAB consultation workshop on pre-departure training manual for migrant workers to Malaysia

    25 - 26 July 2013

    Under the framework of the GMS TRIANGLE project, the ILO and the Department for Overseas Labour, MOLISA will organize a consultation workshop on pre-departure training manual for migrant workers to Malaysia. The consultation workshop is proposed to present the draft manual and get tripartite constituents’ involvement in finalization. The manual was developed by ILO based on the results and recommendations of the assessment on predeparture training conducted in Viet Nam, Lao and Cambodia with the participation of tripartite constituents in 2011.

  2. Seminar of “Application of Kaizen and 5S towards sustainable business development of garment factories”

    Kaizen is an important philosophy in production, which includes various programs and tools to improve the quality of management and reduce waste through small and continuous improvements. In Kaizen, 5S is an important program with the goal of arranging production premises in a logical way, improving self-awareness and sense of responsibility of employees.
