HANOI (ILO News) – International Labour Organization (ILO) industrial relations specialist Yoon Youngmo was awarded a medal for the cause of labour, invalids and social affairs by the Vietnamese Government in Hanoi on 25 July.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the highest award of the ministry recognized the Hanoi-based expert for his contributions to the country’s industrial relations development since 2009.

“He has made significant contributions to the improvement of the labour legal system in Viet Nam, particularly the amendment of the Labour Code and Trade Union Law,” said MoLISA Vice Minister Pham Minh Huan.

As chief technical advisor for Viet Nam – ILO Industrial Relations Project, Mr Yoon has also supported MoLISA, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and employers’ associations to achieve better labour relations, carry out a wage reform and promote effective partnership between the ILO and its Vietnamese partners.

VGCL Vice President Mai Duc Chinh said the expert’s success was “the success of partnership and cooperation in industrial relations”.

According to Mr Yoon, who is leaving Viet Nam for another ILO position in China from 1 August, the medal he received belonged to partners and colleagues he has worked with.
“My work has been made possible thanks to the whole ILO system," he said. "I’ve also learnt a useful lesson that you should be able to listen to your partners.”
