  1. Unemployment insurance in Viet Nam, an experience to be shared

    Viet Nam launched its unemployment insurance (UI) scheme in 2009. The UI scheme insures now more than 8 million workers. The International Labour Organization, mainly with the support from the ILO/Japan Multi-bilateral Programme, has provided technical support and capacity building services to the government and social partners to continue improving the scheme.

  1. Migrant worker resource centres in Viet Nam

    Migrant worker resource centres (MRCs) in Viet Nam provide a variety of services to potential migrant workers and their families. Through the support of the GMS TRIANGLE project, MRCs have been incorporated into five Employment Service Centres in provinces that send high numbers of migrant workers. This video shows three young people navigating their way through regular migration channels, receiving recruitment agency pre-departure training and visiting the MRC for information.

    Tran Thi Dzung a member of the Group 51 in Phuc Yen Town, Vinh Phuc Province, joined the Tao Yao Mai, an ILO supported micro-insurance scheme which helps Viet Nam's Women Union in distributing their products. The scheme helps Dzung and other women who mostly belong to ethnic minority groups to improve their livelihood and earnings through micro-insurance.   2. The bamboo weavers of Ha Tinh: Skills bring decent work

    A story about farmers in My Loc Commune, Can Loc District, Ha Tinh Province, who are forced to migrate for work. The ILO Community-based Training for Economic Empowerment (CB-TREE) programme created jobs and earnings by providing trainings in the production of bamboo baskets, honey, boat, and healthier plants fence, etc. The farmers can find new opportunities in the local community with their new learned skills.
