Post-graduate course on Occupational Safety and Health at the Workplace (6th edition)

This postgraduate course was designed to contribute to the development of competent occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals. The general objective is to facilitate the knowledge and skills required for effectively dealing with safety and health management.

A multidisciplinary background is needed to operate successfully in the broad field of OSH. The course therefore incorporates training sessions on the topics and disciplines relevant to OSH. The training focuses not only on OSH issues but also on the development of organizational, managerial and inter-personal skills. Specific study visits are planned to offer direct interaction with experts in the field.

The programme will last 23 weeks (700 hours). The course will start on 3 October 2011 and end on 23 March 2012. (Distance learning will take place from 3 October 2011 to 13 January 2012 and the residential phase from 30 January to 23 March 2012). The residential phase of the programme will be held on the campus of the ITC/ILO in Turin, Italy.

At the end of the training programme, participants will be able to:
- Manage the use of procedures, methods and other tools for hazard identification, risk evaluation and risk control.
- Formulate, implement and evaluate a safety and health plan for an enterprise, incorporating essential OSH concepts and techniques of OSH management.
- Advise employers and workers on technical requirements of OSH.
- Support the efforts of an enterprise to improve its OSH.

The course has been specifically designed for hygienists, physicians, chemists, engineers, inspectors, practitioners and civil servants with a university degree but without previous specialization in OSH, who are working, or wish to work, as OSH specialists.
