    Brief: The ILO Response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis

    As part of the wider UN response to the Syrian refugee crisis, the ILO has adopted a development-focused and employment-driven strategy to support host communities and refugees so as to maintain and reinforce the social and economic stability of the affected neighbouring countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt). This addresses in particular the key strategic direction of the 3RP of investing in livelihoods and employment opportunities to better equip refugees and host community members to provide for themselves and their families.

    ILO Syria Crisis Response Strategy (Update: January 2017)

    Within the framework of the Regional Refugee Response and Resilience Plan (3RP), the ILO has adopted a development-focused and employment-driven strategy to support host communities and refugees. The ILO strategy builds on its core mandate to promote employment, social dialogue, social protection and rights at work through contributing to building the resilience of host communities and refugees, strengthening institutional capacities and coordination to eliminate child labour, and supporting evidence-based policy development to ensure an employment-rich national response, embedded in the principles of decent work.

    Youth Employment and Migration in Turkey

    Turkey is undergoing a demographic transition. Its population comprises 74 million people and is expected to keep growing until 2050 and begin ageing in 2025. The share of children and youth under 25 years old reaches 45 per cent, and the 15-29 age group represents around 25 per cent of the total population – about 18 million people.
