Over six years into the Syria conflict, Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the local communities hosting them are finding it difficult to cope with the dire economic and labour market challenges brought about by the influx of vast numbers of refugees. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder visited Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley to meet first-hand some of those affected by the crisis.

Refugee crisis and access to labour markets must be a shared responsibility, says ILO

It is not possible to expect those developing countries - which by the accident of geographical proximity are bearing at the moment most of the responsibility - to deal with the refugee crisis on their own, said ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder to the BBC. The UN General Assembly hosted a high-level summit on September 19 to address large movements of refugees and migrants, with the aim of bringing countries together behind a more humane and coordinated approach.
