7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML)
The 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) is held on 20-21 November 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour is an open platform for the review, discussion and exchange of the best practices and ideas between governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and civil society stakeholders on key issues facing migrant workers in ASEAN. This year, the overall theme of the AFML is “Towards the ASEAN Community by 2015 with enhanced measures to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers”. There also are two subthemes, which are: “Promotion of fair and appropriate employment protection, payment of wages, and adequate access to decent working and living conditions for migrant workers” and “Coordination and role of key stakeholders to set up and implement policies and procedures to facilitate aspects of migration of workers, including recruitment, preparation, protection abroad, and return and reintegration”.

Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers: Post-6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour GMS Consultation on good practice to improve Complaint Mechanism
The TFAMW organized the GMS consultation to review, discuss and exchange good practices among civil society stakeholders on ways to effective implement and improve existing complaint mechanisms. The GMS Consultation Workshop facilitated the documentation of forms and procedures in use to file complaints, claims and appeals against abuses and discrimination during the full cycle of migration. The full cycle of migration includes pre-departure – recruitment agencies, training, fees paid for the legal processing to work overseas; post-arrival – working and living conditions, terms of employment, and returning – unfair dismissals, non-payment of due wages and other claims.

Regional Meeting on Increasing Productivity through Enhancing the Safety and Health of Migrant Workers
The mobility of professionals in the ASEAN region is expected to increase significantly with the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community’s (AEC) Blueprint for the free flow of skilled labour by 2015. Increased efforts will be needed to ensure that robust regulatory frameworks are in place across the region when the AEC is scheduled to commence in 2015

The primary objective of this consultation is to identify activities that national CSO stakeholders will undertake to implement the Recommendations of the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) and to assess the extent to which CSO have contributed to the implementation of the AFML recommendations (3rd, 4th, 5th)

ASEAN Labour Inspection Conference 2014
It is the succeeding event to three previous conferences that tackled and provided recommendations on national and ASEAN-level issues which included developing new methods and tools for improving labour inspection effectiveness, strengthening enforcement of national safety and health laws, and concerns surrounding labour migration, child labour, and the agricultural sector.

The ILO’s ASEAN TRIANGLE Project recently developed the International Labour Migration Statistics (ILMS) Database to gather statistical information on migrant workers in the ten ASEAN member states, including a range of previously unpublished sources.
