Manuel G. Imson profile

Mr. Manuel G. Imson is the Senior Programme Officer/ Project Coordinator of the ASEAN TRIANGLE Project – Tripartite Action for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers in the ASEAN Region. The Project aims to significantly reduce the exploitation of labour migrants in the region through increased legal and safe migration and improved labour protection. The Project will promote both bilateral and regional approaches to deal with shared concerns, make regionalism more effective, and enhance the capacity of institutions in ASEAN. The Project, which started in 2012, will run until 2016 and is funded by the Government of Canada.


Prior to joining the ILO, Mr. Imson was a career official of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with more than 30 years of solid experience in migration. He served as Deputy Minister of Labour for five years, as Labor Attaché at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland for six years with supervisory function over all Philippine Labor Offices in Europe, and as Labor Attaché for seven years at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. , USA. He also served as Deputy Administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and as Director of International Labour Affairs of DOLE.

Mr. Imson has an MBA degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines and an MA Degree in International Business from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
