    The road to clean energy: Policy coherence and convergence of actions key to a just transition

    The Good and Decent Jobs, Skills, and Entrepreneurship for a Just Energy Transition Workshop gathered over 80 representatives from governments, enterprises, workers, financial institutions and development partners to discuss the future of work for a clean energy and just transition with a panel of experts. The workshop is part of the Asia Clean Energy Forum 2017.

    The ILO and the United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP22

    The annual United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held in Bab Ighli, Marrakech, Morocco from 7-18 November 2016. This twenty-second session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) follows the adoption in 2015 of the Paris Agreement on climate change at COP21.

    Can closer economic integration bring more decent work opportunities in the Caribbean?

    A high-level panel discussion at the UN Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference in Samoa on 1 September will bring together the ILO with policy makers, employer and worker representatives to discuss the feasibility and implications of greater economic integration in the Caribbean. The Director of the ILO Office for the Caribbean looks at some of the proposed measures and their implications for decent job creation.

    New ILO study says greener economies will require development of new green job skills

    The employment potential of the transition to greener economies cannot be realized without the development of a wide range of relevant new skills for green jobs, according to a new global study by the ILO of 21 countries representing some 60 per cent of the world population. “Skills for Green Jobs: A Global View” is the most comprehensive report to date, outlining the needs and challenges of developing new skills that will be critical to sustaining the growth of green economies.

    Developing new skills or upgrading existing ones is the key to unlocking the potential of green jobs. The Green Jobs Initiative of the ILO, the UN Environmental Programme, the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has been working to turn this potential into reality since 2008. ILO News talks to Olga Strietska-Ilina, Skills Development Specialist with ILO’s Skills and Employability Department, about a new landmark ILO study developed together with the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) on skill needs for greener economies.
