Pakistan: ILO-Ministry of Labour workshop stresses the role of Parliamentarian in the eradication of bonded labour

Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said Friday that government was committed to eradicate bonded labour from the country with support of all stakeholders. He was participating in a workshop on “Role of parliamentarian” organized by ILO and Ministry of Labour.

Barrister Zafarullah briefed the participants about existing laws and situation of bonded labour in the country.

The minister said government was ready to amend legislation on labour, adding legislation is not an issue as all parties are supporting to eradicate bonded labour.

He said there was complete consensus among all political parties on bonded labour issue as it violates human rights.

The minister said that he was ready to convene a special meeting of all stake holder to evolve a vibrant policy to end this curse from the country.

The workshop was also attended by Federal Minister for Environment Hamiduallah Jan Afridi, Federal for SAFRON Najmudin Khan, MNA PML Q Marvi Memon, MNA Sahibzada Fazal Karim and MNA PML N Anjum Aqeel Khan.
