    Tripartite Meeting on ILO Code of Practice

    The ILO’s Project on Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence against Women at Workplace supported by the Government of Bangladesh organized a “Tripartite Meeting on ILO Code of Practice – Workplace Violence in Service Sectors and Measures to Combat This Phenomenon” on 30 September 2012 at the Conference Hall of the Chamber Building in Dhaka. Government officials, representatives from different trade unions and employers‟ associations attended the meeting and shared their views about the ILO Code of Conduct addressing violence against women at workplaces in Bangladesh perspective.

    Situation analysis of Female Migrants and Domestic Workers

    Under the UNJP-VAW programme, the Ministry of Labour and Employment and ILO’s joint project “Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing VAW at Workplace” organized the Workshop on Situation Analysis of Female Migrants and Domestic Workers. The programme was held on June 21, 2012 at the Chamber Building of Bangladesh Employers Federation located in Dhaka.

    Dissemination Workshop on Baseline Survey

    Under UNJP-VAW, Ministry of Labour and Employment and ILO‟s joint project “Promoting gender equality and preventing VAW at workplace” has organized the dissemination workshop on Page 7 of 21 the baseline survey findings on November 23, 2011 at CIRDAP Auditorium with a view to strengthen the political commitment and joint efforts of all stakeholders to prevent and eliminate violence against women at workplace; and identify the ways and means to ensure more sustainable and effective interventions this kind of workshop is really important for us.

    Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment (ETE)

    The project aims to support the analysis and formulation of effective and coherent trade and labour market policies that address the adjustment challenges that workers and employers face and expand opportunities for the creation of decent employment in developing countries. The first phase (2009-2013) has been completed and the second phase (ETE II) is currently underway.

    The ILO Convention on Indigenous and Tribal Populations, 1957 (No.107) and the laws of Bangladesh: A comparative Review

    The initial idea of undertaking this study came about in 2005 as a result of increasing requests by indigenous peoples’ organizations in Bangladesh for the ILO to re-open dialogue with the Government of Bangladesh on implementation of ILO’s Indigenous and Tribal Populations Convention, 1957 (No. 107). Although Convention No. 107 was ratified by Bangladesh in 1972, it had not been used systematically by the ILO and the Government of Bangladesh as an instrument for dialogue on development needs and strategies for indigenous and tribal populations in the country, despite its potential in this regard.

    Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform in Bangladesh

    The TVET Reform Project is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh, assisted by the International Labour Organisation and funded by the European Union. The goal is to ensure Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global market and reduce poverty by improving the quality of vocational educational and training.
