The ILO participates in a UN Expert Group Meeting on cooperatives and the COVID19 pandemic

The first ever virtual Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on “The Role of Cooperatives in Economic and Social Development: Recover Better from the COVID19 Pandemic” took place on June 2-4, 2021.

Wenyan Yang (UN DESA) on the first day of the EGM UNDESA organizes an EGM every two years as input into the Report of the SG on social development. This first virtual EGM on “The Role of Cooperatives in Economic and Social Development: Recover Better from the COVID19 Pandemic”, co-organized with the International Cooperative Alliance, was held on June 2-4, 2021.

ILO COOP Manager, Simel Esim has joined the first session of the EGM on June 2, 2021 on “Setting the stage: Cooperatives and recovering better from the COVID-19 Pandemic”. She reflected on how the crises around COVID19 affected workers and enterprises and highlighted cooperative responses to the global pandemic.

The second day of the EGM on June 4, 2021 focused on cooperative law with presentations on the state of legislation on cooperatives from different regions of the world. Ms. Esim contributed to the programme with a welcome message.
