Comoros ratifies the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 144)

Today, the Government of Comoros deposited with the International Labour Office the instrument of ratification of the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 144).

In depositing the instrument of ratification, Ms Siti Kassim, Minister of Employment, Labour, Vocational Training and Women's Entrepreneurship, stated that: “the Comoros has created an Advisory Council on Labour and Employment to strengthen the collaboration between the social partners with regard to employment and international labour standards. By ratifying Convention No. 144, we want to increase social dialogue and engagement of workers’ and employers’ organizations with regard to economic and social development. We welcome the support of the International Labour Office in the establishment of a framework for tripartite social dialogue”.

Welcoming the ratification of this important Convention by the Comoros, the Director-General of the ILO, Mr Guy Ryder, stated: “I wish to congratulate the Government for the important message it sends on this day by ratifying Convention No. 144, a governance Convention, the implementation of which will help strengthen existing institutions and the development of tripartism and social dialogue in the country. Convention No. 144 is intended to establish the preconditions for achieving decent work for all at the national level. The commitment and political will of the Government and the social partners will be a key element in the success of this process”.

With the ratification of Convention No. 144, Comoros has now ratified 33 Conventions.
